The way I do it.

Remove the backplate from the engine. I use a hardwood dowel cut in half. I place this dowel to where it comes in contact with the con-rod and side of engine case. Hold the fan with a towel and rotate counter clock-wise. The dowel will stop the engine from rotating and allow you to really get a good twist
