It screws off. I use a piston lock to prevent the engine from turning. It is a nylon bolt of about 5cm that screws in through the glow plug hole. Make sure the crankshaft is in the 90 degree position, otherwise there will be very large forces on the crankshaft and piston lock during the procedure.
