the rip effect's are done by masking each rip area as one full piece. then add black shadow all around.
paint background colour.
using a sharp knife follow the edge of the rip but a couple of mm in to it to create the white outline.
I have a special knife used for stencil cutting, the blade is tiny and pivots around the tip so you can change direction without lifting off the object.
remove the cut outline area and paint white (apply enough coats as not to allow any other colour to show through.)
now start with orange and follow the edge of each rip and change to yellow then eventually white on the larger areas.
