The box is there for darned good reason. Some fields don't have noise issues, but I'd venture to say at least half, if not more, do have serious noise issues. Urban sprawl is the real problem.

I'm currently fortunate to fly at a couple of fields that do not have these issues, but only a couple of years ago we almost lost a field due to noise, and eventually they cut a road right across the runway, to make a road for yet another cluster f* of soccer mom palaces.

When we sent our club reps to the city council meeting, one of them was LITERALY SPIT ON in the elevator by some woman who hated the noise. Oddly enough, her neighbor who cut their grass 4 times a week and spent the rest of the day with a weedeater didn't bother her. But a model airplane turned her into a vicious raving lunatic.

You won't see the problem until you have one yourself. You're safe at Atlanta R/C, I wouldn't go there again without an AK 47 myself. And I was raised in College Park/East Point....
