The batteries that have had the problems have been for the most part exclusively Li-Polys. The Fromeco and Duralite batteries are Lithium Ions. Li-ons are contained in a "can" similar to nicads and nimh. Li-polys are wrapped in a thin sheet that can be cut or punctured. In any case, the Li-ons have not been a problem to date, and permanant mounting in the fuselage is not an issue. Using any lithium battery requires that you pay attention to the charging rates and times. DO NOT try to fast charge ANY Lithium battery.

Those that are using the lighter engines on the 28% planes can find it difficult to balance the plane using a Li-On for the ignition. Using a good 4.8v or regulated 6v 1,400 to 1,800mAh "AA" nicad will help in the balance, and still provide plenty of juice for the ignition. Using the 4.8 volt nicad on the ignition will save a couple of dollars to boot.

As far as interference is concerned, today's radio's and equipment is far better than what was used in the early days of gas engines, and is not as susceptable to some of the RF. The ignition systems are also far superior to what had been available before. A very large percentage of problems that are incurred by "ignition" noise are not ignition at all, but in reality mechanical vibration noise caused by loose parts or wires, poor fitting connectors, or other areas where something is loose or vibrating and causing intermittant contacts or metal to metal vibration.

That's one of the reasons that I reccommend that old or previously crashed parts not be used in a new giant scale gasser. It's also a good reason to consider above average computer transmitters and strong, high quality servos.
