Default Bad battery or faulty charger?

Last night, I saw an old battery pack (4.8v 600 mah Sanyos) that I had taken out of a trainer a few months ago. I had charged it in October and it has sat on a shelf since then. Last night before I put it on a quick charge, it read around 4.4 v under a load on a Hobbico Mark III voltmeter. I charged it on a Hobbico quick charger and the voltmeter reading was around 5.6. I then connected it to an Einstein charger and started the cycle function. After only a few minutes, the Einstein went from discharge to charge and indicated only 40 mah capacity. This didn't seem right, so I removed the pack and again tested on the voltmeter which read 5.4 v. I then reconnected to the Einstein and began the discharge cycle again. This time it indicated a discharge of 330 mah. I removed the battery and it indicated 4.9 on the voltmeter. I checked again this morning and it still shows 4.9. Does this seem correct, or should the Einstein discharge the pack to a lower level (around 4.4 v seems right)? I know I won't use this battery pack anyway as it is several years old, but I am wondering if the Einstein is functioning properly. I would appreciate any thoughts on this as I am now wondering if it is time to replace the Einstein.
