FZ-53 Compression
Hi
I bought a YS FZ-53 while on holiday in florida in Jan 2002. I have just got round to fitting it in my Hirrobo Stream 50 Hi Perf. The engine is new - straight out of the box and it has not been run yet. I would have bought another 63 - but my friend Harry C snapped up the only one in the shop - leaving me with the 53.
I have fitted the plug and prop - but I have noticed that if you turn the engine over - there is no compression. I have checked the valves - these seem Ok. I have checked the plug, this is in and OK.
I put some fuel into the tank, turned the engine over 10 times. Then checked the tank pressure - which seemed fine. But still no compression.
When I get the chance I will try and start it - but to be honest I doubt it will. I could be completely out of order here, as its a ringed piston it possibly needs to be started in order to 'bed-in'.
I also have an FZ-63, which is just fantastic. There just doesn't seem to be any specific power band .. it throttle as if it were an electric motor, instant, reliable and the power output just seems to be totally linear. Only trouble is I can't remember if that engine had any noticeable compression before its "first start".
Appreciate any feed back .. and I don't mind being called a fool!
