IMHO, the relationship between engine temperature and carbon formation can be observed in every case with each of your oil runs. The combustion chamber has very little carbon compared to the top of the piston, although both surfaces are equally exposed to the burning mixture. The reason for this difference is that the piston is much hotter than the cylinder head. Clean areas on the piston top are probably a result of intake mixture cooling one area of the piston more than other areas.
