Practice, practice, practice, with what you have learnt. I fly Mode I with thumbs on the sticks but believe if Mode II is used, which puts the two main controls on the same stick, a Tx tray is desirable to get the delicate balance required between the two functions using fingers and thumbs, but that is just another opinion.
