AFPD Sailplanes
OK, I've been flying this for a couple of weeks. Mainly the Milan. Right now in Omenhausen. Some questions for others:
1. Are the sailplanes trimmed funny, or is it just me? I found the Milan "porpoised" a lot until I moved the CG forward. I haven't tried tweaking the other planes, but it seemed like I should. This is an easy tweak, I'm just wondering if others have noticed the same thing, or if this points to a problem in my flying. Also, what are your favorite sailplanes, and how do you have them trimmed?
2. How do the flaps work on the Milan? I can see them move, and I see they are tied to the throttle stick. But I can't figure out what the "normal" setting is, what the "speed" setting is, and what the "landing" setting is. Do I have the stick in the middle for normal flight? Which way for speed an landing. I've never flown a plane with flaps, btw.
3. Boy, Omenhausen is tough. I've got some wind dialed in, and with all the obstacles and the cornfield being hard and unforgiving, and the fast plane coming in -- it's hard to land. Just an observation for those who say AFPD is too easy to fly. I don't see it with the sailplanes!
4. Feature requests: it would be nice to have a "glance down at horizon" key that would drop the view to the horizon for maybe a half-second, then rise back up to the plane. This would help me stay oriented when plane is high (and mimics what I do in real-life). (I do use the Z key to zoom out, but it's not quite the same). Also it would be nice to have a timer in the flight information screen (right now you only get that if you record yoursel). And I'll echo the request for being able to set windwpeeds (and other parameters) in miles/hour rather than meters/second.
Overall I am really enjoying the sim. The gliders feel realistic (in spite of my CG question), and I find I get sweaty when I'm too close to the ground (like the real thing!)
Cordially,
Eric
