Lowering octane...?

Saitos are built to run on methanol, which has an octane rating of 140 or so. This number gets lowered by the addition of nitromethane, but it still remains quite a lot higher than pump gas.
So if anything, you would need to raise the octane number of your gas.

The problem is, like others already pointed out, that the Saito carb is not made to meter gasoline. On gasoline, the engine needs less then half the fuel it needs on methanol.
