piedmont temptation
We'll be out flying the latest prototype Temptation (pictured on the web) for the 1st time this afternoon. I *like* this part of my job!
On the subject of ARFs:
One can do as much precision as one wants with an ARF. It's all about money. We are considering future production of ARC/ARF versions of the Temptation, but for this plane it would be 100% composite structures, with a nearly guaranteed flying weight of 9 1/2 lbs or less and absolute perfection of all parts. Problem is, it it isn't cheap, by a long shot, to produce that way. One is looking at around $2000 for an ARF.
The Focus, on the other hand, sometimes requires a little hand fitting and weighs 10+ (mine is 10lbs 7oz). They fly great, competitive at any level. The kit itself is good, not perfect. That last bit of perfection requires serious money and how much are people willing to pay?
Haven't you ever wondered why there are so many inexpensive 60/90 sized ARF Pattern planes, but other than the Focus, no inexpensive 2 meter jobs (that I'm aware of). It's because other manufacturers have better sense. Consider the limited market, size of the plane at 11 lb weight limit and performance expectations. As a rational human being, would you want anything to do with it? I'm not rational, so it works for me!
