Default RE: Staggerwing Beech

I have been collecting information on Staggerwing kits for quite some time. I am also building the 64 inch model from Robert Sweitzer Plans sold by Vintage RC Plans. I am pretty sure that the PCK kit is cut from the same plans. My kit was cut by Kitcutters. Although they did an excellent job without the use of laser tools, there is no comparison to the accuracy of laser cut kits. This kit and all other Staggerwing kits in this size are EXPERT level kits and require a lot of building experience and imagination.

I have also purchased a Marutaka Staggerwing Kit. It is a 56 inch wing span model. Marutaka bought the rights to build and sell the old Royal kits. Both companies no longer manufacture this kit. Hobby barn use to sell the kits here in the US, but they are all sold out. You may find one that someone has stashed away but they are no longer in production. These kits sold for about $170.00 but now sell for $200.00 plus. If you check ebay, you will find one occasionally (currently one for sale at $225.00).

I have a number of photos of Staggerwing models in the photo gallery on my web site at http://iflyrc.hypermart.net . You can also go to the forum a follow the progress of my Sweitzer Staggerwing project. If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to leave a message on my forum.

I also have extracted the text from the RCM article on their model built from RCM plan 620. The article describes the construction and flying of the 64 inch span model. The article was posted in the December 1975 issue of the RCM magazine (not availble from RCM). Drop by my web site and leave me a message and I will give you a link to the file.
