I would bet that the battery holder is shorting out. The under tank pack will move forward and short out against the chassis. Put tape oround the pack and you should get at least 8-10 tanks out of a new 4 cell pack. The fit under the tank will be tight with tape around the pack so only put one wrap around it in any one place.
