Default RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters

Dear All
It has been a sad day at RAf Coltishall, as two of the four Jaguar sqn's were officially disbanded.
The sqn's that were disbanded are 16(R) and 54(F) they can both trace their root's back to 1916.
That's two years before the RAF was formed. The Station is due to close December 2006.

Will they never learn the lessons of history.
Here is what they had to say on the station website, they called it a celebration.
I wouldn't quite call it that.

They did put on a very nice flying display, which included.
Jaguar airfield attack, Jet provost, Hawker Hunter, Berkut, P51D Mustang, Jaguar solo display.
Jaguar diamond nine, Spitfire and two Jaguar's in formation and Spitfire solo display.Below are some pics that I took.

No. 16(Reserve) & 54(Fighter) Squadron's Disbandment Celebrations, 11 - 13 March 2005.

No. 16(R) & No. 54(F) Squadrons will disband at RAF Coltishall on 11 March 2005.

There will be a Station Families Day for RAF Coltishall personnel & their families on 12 March as well as past & present members of both disbanding squadrons. Regretfully this event will not be open to the general public.

On Sunday 13 March , No. 54(F) Squadron will lay-up their Squadron Standard in Norwich Cathedral.

Regards Phil G.
