Default CA Glue Mishaps

It's evil stuff & whoever decided they needed to make "thin" CA is a very dark creature. Share your mishaps so others can learn from your mistakes!

I was gluing tires for a 1/8th scale buggy. They already had a good bead on the inside but I thought I'd be safe & add another on the outside. I got in a bit of a hurry & turned one over shortly after adding a little too much medium CA. The result was a palm full of CA. I didn't think water would do much to remove it & since a large bottle of alcohol was nearby I grabbed it. A splash of alcohol & a few seconds later I saw my palm turning ghost white & I found out that these two chemicals get warm when mixed. Can we say chemical burn? The bathroom sink cooled the burning but I still ended up picking glue & skin off my palm. [:'(]

This time I was gluing tires for a MT. The LHS didn't have any medium or thick CA so I was stuck with thin. I knew it wouldn't be fun but it was all I had access to. The end of my thumb was covered in so much CA that it didn't even hurt to rip it off the tire anymore & I found it a little unnerving as I shaved layers of glue off my thumb with a Xacto knife. The part that REALLY sucked was when I turned one tire over (that had been sitting for at least a minute) & felt a wet sensation on my stomach. Luckily (I think) I wasn't wearing a shirt so I didn't have to rip that off but it was very uncomfortable as I detached the tire from my gut. Even worse than that all the hair in that spot seemed to get stretched in every direction imaginable so I was left with a whole new kind of pain. Picking it off wasn't working at all since CA bonds REALLY well to hair so I bit the bullet & shaved it off. Not only do I have a 2" tall oval of smooth skin just above my belly button but I have some razor burn worthy of some kind of hall of fame. [:@]

The good news is I should have another pair of MT tires coming in the mail tomorrow & they're 40 series so I get to deal with even more glue! YAAAY!! [&:]
