There is no right or wrong way.....

I'm mostly a mode 1 thumber, but can fly mode 2 just fine and pinch if I want. I thumb mainly because that was the way I was taught and also with quick stick movements, I have a hard time staying on the correct axis and tend to drift off (pinch method). Again, it depends on the person....
