RE: Howard Engineering - Kwik Fli III – Build
I’ve been ready to fly the Kwik Fli III for a few days and have just been waiting for some good weather for the first flight. While I was waiting, I started getting paranoid about the strength of the main gear mounts. My landings are usually pretty smooth but……. what if I messed one up? The front part of the ¼” plywood mounts are undercut slightly in the foam for the air line pathway. I had strengthened the area with some square stock to attach the 1/64” plywood wheel well liner and to the bottom of the ¼” plywood mount. See page 1 and 2 of this thread for details. After more thought I decided to add a wood dowel through the front of the mount that projects out into the foam wing about 1 3/4” similar to the way the Tipo main gears mounts are bonded to the foam wing. I drilled the hole through the front of plywood gear the mount and cut a dowel to fit into the hole. I worked a bunch of epoxy glue into the hole and pushed the dowel into the hole and down place.
Now, I’m ready to go flying!
