RE: Somethin Extra is Reborn!!
Well, she successfully re-maidened today. Took her out to the field over my lunch hour, range checked the radio, fueled up, made a few last adjustments and decided to go for it. Was able to get her off the ground in about 20 feet or so, climbed out to a decent altitude and trimmed it. Took about 6 clicks of right aileron and 4 clicks of down elevator to get her straight and level. Since it had been about 2 years since I flew, the club instructor was nice enough to come stand out with me while I flew the first time. Just did some simple ovals around the field and brought her in for a landing. Was a little short on the landing and ended up in the grass, but overall not bad. Took a 15 minute break to lose the shakes (hah, could tell I hadn't flown in a while) and then took her out again. This time up I tried a couple aileron rolls and a loop, was able to do those just fine. I had the surfaces at low rates for both flights so things were nice and easy. Did about 4 touch and gos, the last one was a little bouncy and the engine died. Went out to collect the plane and noticed that the right aileron was in the down position. The soldering on the control rod had come loose and the aileron had disconnected from the control arm. Not sure when that happened, but I think it was on the last bouncy landing. Will replace the control arms with new ones with Z bends before I take her out again. All in all a great day!!
