Does the little plastic chevron thingy attacked to the boom of the hummingbird v3 (esky, dragonfly, etc) do anything?

I lost mine in a boom strike and havn't had a chance to reattach it yet. i have not seen much if any difference in flight characteristics. I am a beginner, flying in a 15'x15x10' padded room. Therefore, I have not done much controlled forward flight, which is all i can think that that piece would be used for. I am pretty much limited to side slips.
