What you're saying is not true. Lengthing a rod has nothing to do with the total amount of travel of the rod and/or aileron. The rod will still travel exactly the same distance, it will just start from a differnet point than it did with a shorter rod. Make sense?

The rod length is adjustable only to adjust the "neutral" or "at rest" location of the aileron.
