RE: The skinny on the Cox Queen Bee .074
Queen Bee .074 first- the mod that Cox made to the .074 was to add an air bleed to the carb. They drilled a small hole all the way through the carb at the top. Usually the air bleed hole is drilled at an angle going more down into the throat of the carb barrell. They simply removed the carb barrell and drilled clear through the carb body. Seemed to really help the idle. I had an .074 I bought used and played with some. I tried a Medallion .09 piston, cylinder and the .074 head on. The one problem with that was the crank pin as too small for the .09 rod. I pressed on a brass tube to get it close enough to run, but with the difference in stroke, it never ran well. I also have a NIB Queen Bee. A month or so back I saw a couple of NIB queen bees go for ~$125 on the bay. I was ready to dump mine, but was too slow, and the price went back to a sane level. Don't know what caused the big price swing, soembody really thought they were something great for some reason.
Japanman started the V block reedy thread a year or so ago. Posted that his was very effective, but didn't have a tach to get any numbers off of it with. I tried the V reed block mod to the cox .049, with the AP carb on it. I wasn't too impressed with the power output, until I finally figured out that my 7 year 25% fuel was the problem. (Tried running my Norvel with it and had poor results also.) I haven't gotten back to it for many months. I do think there is some very good potential there. When it did idle down, it was way lower then my Norvel will idle.
Here are a couple of pics of it:
