When Leroy Cox introduced the reed valve on his Space Bug and Thermal Hopper .049 engines he was convinced the reed was superior to the front rotary because his engines put out more power than any other .049 of the time.

Bill Atwood went to work for Cox and argued a rotary induction would out-rev a reed. Leroy let Bill make the RR-1 .049 (Rear Rotary) and it did out-rev the reed engines. The reason Cox reed valve engines ran so well was the superb piston-cylinder fit and exhaust porting.

Bill Atwood then designed the Cox TD series of engines and pretty much set the record straight as to the superiority of rotary intake vs reed.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
