Default RE: The skinny on the Cox Queen Bee .074

meowy,

I am confused now. So we take a Cox geared twin, each engine has an intake tube to a single venturi/carb right? I don't see a gain anyplace. The engines are going to be running at the same rpm no matter how they are firing. Take a reedie turning only 15,000rpm, that engine is making 250 revs a second. The time it takes that reed to open and close can't even be counted. I just don't think the limiting factor in a reedie is the reed. If that was true you would have a flat stop in the rpm chart if you trimmed down a prop. Start cutting down a prop and the rpm is just going to keep going up. It's the other parts on the engine that will be the limit. If you cut down the reed speed then you are cutting down the rpm too. Again it has been proven time and again that a geared twin Cox while it looks good is really good for nothing other than looking at. It's heavy and you lose so much energy in the gearing.

Later,
Tim
