RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks for all the positive coments, guys. Now I am an expert (?) at posting pictures. Here is what I've been flying in the snow. Pontoons are better than skis in anything over a half inch of snow.
To address a couple of comments; I painted the inside of the canopy with Testor's transparent blue spray enamel, #1257. It comes in a 3 ounce spray can.
For a tail brace if you use rigid wire you only have to do top or bottom not both. It will prevent flexing in both directions. I did the top rather than the bottom because I fly off long grass at the Conestoga field. If you use flexible wire that is O.K. also but you should brace top and bottom and you don't want to circle your antenna with a closed conductive loop. According to the electronic purists that will reduce the range of your receiver antenna.
Yep, I have several flights on it, just enough to know that the O.S. .70 isn't the engine I want to use. I will use a Saito 1.00 if I can get a good one. I sent two Saito 1.00 engines back because of excessive vibration. The first one vibrated so badly that the carburetor broke off the back plate. (yeah, I balance my props and I checked the gaps) Horizon sent me another new one immediately. Same problem, but this time I could also hear a clicking. Turning the engine over slowly by hand I thought I could tell that the piston was hitting the port valve. I sent that one back also. I got a nice letter from the tech telling me that he cleaned the valves and replaced the rear bearing. I haven't had time to run it up yet. I am an O.S. man but got the Saito because it was a lightweight engine. I'm not bad mouthing Saito... I have a Saito 1.5 in my Cap 32 and a Saito .72 in my Twist and they both run trouble free. I bought these because they were recommended by Horizon as best for these planes. Here's a couple more pix.
Regards, FRED
