Assuming the prop shaft is long enough, you could put a large washer with a 1/4" I.D. and an O.D to fit close in on the new backplate to act as a spacer. Shouldn't cause any problems. Be sure to get everything good and tight. I believe I recall that you were a machinist or metal worker so you know of what I speak.
