The valve works, for brakes, by switching on and off at different rates to give you different braking levels. This means you can empty an air tank in a few seconds.
This is true but I always have enough pressure for my entire flight, I just have to refill every time before I fly. I still think they work well and seem to be less hassle versus the manual valves.
I haven't tried it but I know of several people who have added airline restrictors in the bleed line of the jetronics valve to reduce pressure loss. I plan on giving it a try here in the near future myself.
