From watching, the guys with the smaller planes have real problems getting off our great looking (from a distance) but rather rough grass field. They have 2 1/4" wheels which is as big as they can go on the small planes without it looking stupid but that barely works. Thats why the smaller planes usually get left at home now. I tried up to 4" wheels on my 40 size and up planes and the was surprized to find that the larger wheels can give you other problems. The magic number seems to be 3" wheels for our field. I hit a gopher hole on the right side on a take off with my Sea Fury. The right wing bounced up a bit and the plane just kept on going! If the wheels was a bit smaller I am sure that it would have went in to the hole and ripped outt of the plane. [X(]
