Default Going from RC car to RC gas plane... which one?

Hi All,

I just registered here, so hope I am in the right place to ask this.
Back in the days I used to run RC cars, with my 18 year old RC-10 graphite...

anyhow now three kids later I would see plane flying to be more enjoyable with the family.

I want to get something gas, I have always had a passion for the engine and sound.
I would ideally want something that requires building and hands-on skilled work, that's what I enjoy, not something ready out of the box with a stick of glue and elastic. My RC-10 (car) was nice being able to modify it and "work" on it periodically, you get my drift, hoping it applies here.

If I have a budget of around 300$ (please don't laugh) can I get something reasonable.? Complete , I have no radio, servos, engine or nothing. This would be a leisure flyer out in the country, no clubs, no competitions, I have no time for that.

Let me know, thanks!

BTW I don't mind buying used (in nice cond) if you can recommend...
