Forestroke,
I had a series of disasters with the SS40's, just one thing after another, bad luck, dumb thumb's, equipment failure. So I changed tack a little, I got hold of the Sky Raider II (SS40 in disgise just a bit lghter/smaller). I put a .46 up front which is a little big but the extra power is fantastic, pretty quick with unlimited vertical. What a fantastic little plane, I have 40+ flights on her now around 10+ a week, with no mishaps to speak of. I am flying the pattern knife edge or inverted, touch and go's and just about anything I can imagine. All free style stuff if you know what I mean.

I can't tell you how many hours I have loged on my G3 sim, but it has helped to exorsize a few gosts and lift my confidence.
I found a much better flying field with lot's and lots of room, this has helped my confidence also, everything seem's to have clicked into place. I fly from an unfinished concrete raod about 40 feet wide and 150mtr's long, its ideal, There is a road at one end that is hardly ever used, with concrete block's across to stop people dumping garbage on the road where I fly. I have open farm land on the other three sides.
Thing's are getting quite good here now, I have an Irish guy I am helping to learn on my old trainer and a Chinese Kite flyer using the firebird commander. We attract quite a crowd whatching us fly 20<30 people. They all want to have a go, but can't afford it. I am just waiting for a trainer lead to arrive and then I might pass round the little .15 foamy trainer and let them have a taste.[X(][X(]
BTW I don't expect to be flying 3D. It will be set up as a sport plane for now on LOOOWWWW rates until I get used to the size
