Why are there so few 1/2a flyers?

The answer is simple. Most flyers ego is tied to the size and type of craft they fly. Larger more expensive aircraft garner more respect at the flying field. Jets even more so.

Small planes aren't cool - Big planes are cool.

All other reasons are just flimsy excuses given to wives, girl friends and gullible modelers.

Can't see 'em - fly closer in

Too twitchy - learn to fly smoother or reduce the throws.

Can't take off from grass - find a piece of pavement or parking lot

Too hard to fly - see too twitchy

Can't handle wind - Flown my 1/2a planes in nearly 40 KNOTS of wind just to see if I could. A little sporting but worked out OK. The big plane guys stand down WAY before I do.

Temperamental - I've seen many hours spent at the field trying to get that gasser to work right. Ignition system, radio interference, mixture, fuel pump, voltage regulator, etc.

Flight Packs too expensive - I can't believe that a guy holding a giant scale plane is complaining about expensive flight packs.

Wing loading too high - Build lighter!

Can't 3d - Don't know about that one as I don't 3d - However I'd bet one could easily mount a Norvel .061 on an Eflight Ultimate and 3d with the best of them!

Some guys just got to have that Bling!
