Well, not sure what you mean about getting your hands around the controls..... I have a few thoughts....
If youre referring to launching by hand, then grabbing the controller... Dont. Until you are quite familliar with your plane you should have someone else launch it, or get landing gear so you can do a rolling takeoff.
Maybe shorten the sticks?
Also, set the control throws to a fairly minimum setting (say, 10-15 degrees deflection) so the plane isnt as jumpy in the air. If your radio has dual rates... Use them. Its really helpful to be able to give your plane more control if its not enough, or less if its too much.
Just had a look at the plane, one final thought... it looks cool, but it also looks like a fairly extreme 3d machine. It will probably want a brushless motor to fly with authority, and weight should be kept to an absolute minimum. keep the balance to the front of the range, that will also make the plane a bit more stable...
