You are right, the mechanics don't look good but it works fine especially since this is such a light plane and the elevators are counter balanced. Those are fiberglass rods made with 2/56 all thread and Hi Tech 625 servos on elevators and ailerons and 645 on pull pull rudder. I have flown it like this many times with no problems.
