Default Using Multiplex Evo 9 with AFPD

I have a Multiplex Evo 9 with a data/simulator cable that works with FMS. I bought AFPD with the Commander control. AFPD does not recognize the Evo 9 with the Commander plugged in or not plugged in.

What do I need to get to use my Evo 9 with AFPD. Multiplex sells a simulator cable but it's like $50 and I have a datacable already. Can I get a serial to USB adapter to use with my Evo cable?

From what I can gather from other posts it seems that AFPD without the Commander control unit comes with a cable that would work with the Multiplex, but it seems like you can't buy the cable separately. Is this true?

I thought that there is some encryption going on in the AFPD cables/Commander that won't let me use a regular cable, correct?

I'd really like to use my Evo with AFPD to get comfortable with it and how it operates.

Thanks,
Mike
