Default RE: BUILDING your own VPP Setup

About the AXI's conversion to hollow shaft. The procedure we followed was pretty much as described by Levi for the Hacker.

But, there is one crucial difference. The shaft retaing setscrew is set with 'permanent' Loctite. You must use extreme care removing it. Here is what to do do:

1. Make sure that you use a very close fitting setscrew wrench. Positioned it as securelyl as possible. An SAE wrench lightly tapped in worked well for us.
2. Hold a high-power (at least 60W) soldering iron as close as possible to the setscrew.
3. Maintain a steady pressure on the wrench while heat is appied. The setscreww should come loose (3 times for us so far)
4. CAUTION: Heat will weaken the Magnets. Clamp the housing to absorb excess heat, and if it takes too much time, let things cool between tries.

Good Luck. I should get my EVP today?
