Default RE: Best 120 size plane for 3-D/ IMAC?

Okay, I mentioned only 3d, but if it is IMAC you are looking for, then look at the Gene Souchy, Great Planes 300S. It is in the 120-160 range. I have the FX 1.60 in mine with a bisson muffler. It has plenty of power for long accelerating verticals and does the IMAC stuff really well. I have had two unlimited pilots fly mine and they both remarked that it was the best flying plane of this size they had ever flown. I have a H9 33% Extra 330L and I like the GP Extra 300S better. Mine weighs right at 12 pounds dry, with about 28oz/sf wing loading. Flies like it is on rails. I am selling my Ultimate and Giles 202, also 120 sized, because this plane flies better.

If you are starting in IMAC this is a great airplane. I have HiTech 5645 on rudder, Futaba 3010's on elevator halves and Futaba 3050's on the ailerons, all on a 1500 6V Nicad battery.

Make sure you block off one exhaust port of the bisson pitts muffler, so you get enough back pressure to push fuel at the low end and midrange. RCU magazine has a good review of this plane, it sold me on it, and is right on the money. I followed their build suggestions and they worked great.

Good luck.
