If the proper, full event is going to be next year, why not run a more laid back informal 3D fly-in / teach-in later this year? The last F3A event is in September so maybe in October (Brrrr)

Persanally I've enough trouble flying 2-D but plan to try and learn some of the 3-D manouvers. Taking part in a proper comp would be too big a jump though, and maybe offputting to other fliers as well.
