I did a lot of research on engine choices before choosing a DA-50 for mine. The biggest deciding factor being that I live in Tucson and that is where DA is located so getting support from them is easy for me. As far as mounting the engine it was very easy to do. Any of the modern 50cc engines will haul these 28% planes around good. My plane weighed in at 17 lbs 6 oz's. I balanced my plane at 3 1/4 inches back from the leading edge at the wing tips. I went with 3 1/4 because that is where my fiends 300LX flies the best. I have not maidened it yet but plan to on Sunday. I took it to the field last Sunday but had ignition problems and couldn't get the engine to run. The problem was a broken wire on my radio operated kill switch. I was able to rig it so that I could at least run the engine a little but I couldn't properly fix the problem at the field so I did not fly it. I used all nelson hobby and dubro hardware and made some carbon fiber push rods. The rudder servo is set up on a pull-pull in the rear hole. My fuel tank is a 24 oz dubro with a Sullivan aluminum gas tank stopper kit. It is mounted right at the wing tube. My throttle and choke servo's are mounted right behind the engine box. The switches are mounted in the forward holes up near the cowl. I have the RX mounted on the forward part of the servo tray. My engine ignition is mounted on the inside of the engine box and the battery is mounted right on the cg behind the wing tube. The RX batteries are mounted right behind the canopy on a shelf in the turtle deck. My plane was nose heavy so I had to move the batteries around some. I didn't have to add any lead to balance it. I set the controls up with a throw meter at the recommended degrees. I have not mixed anything yet and want to fly it first before I start doing any of that. I am using a 9 channel PCM futaba receiver and a 9CAP radio. This is a great plane that is well built and it should fly really nice. It is my first large gasser and I think that I have is set up nice with good equipment. I am going to replace the elevator servo's with Hitec 5645 digitals soon. I finally made the switch to gas. I have been flying 1/4 scale glow planes for the last two years and should have done this sooner. I have been flying my other gasser for the last month getting ready for this one. My other plane is a hanger 9 Ultra Stick Lite 120 with a 3W-24 gasser on it. It is lots of fun but I am getting tired of it. So I am ordering a 120 size edge from wildhare to take its place. I won't get the plane until June but I can wait. I also have a 25% ultimate biplane that is a custom kit that I am converting to gas. It will get either a brison 2.4, BME 44 or a DA-50 on it. Thanks to all of the people who post to the forums on RCU they are loaded with good information. Here are some pictures of my plane. I hope it flies half as good as it looks if it does it will be a keeper.
