RE: Q500 .40
Hi Pete,
The MVVS Quickie engine is truly a beast.
The I sold several in Israel, despite the fact that there are no sanctioned racing classes here.
They are being flown in Terminator type models and making some very nice speeds.
I broke one in with the customer and it spun the 9x6 MA prop we used at 18,300 RPM (which is really not safe for this prop; limited Windsor Propeller to 17,777 RPM (160,000/diameter)).
An APC of this size is close to 18,000.
With the header extended (some 'air' in the silicone coupler), it spins a 10x6 at 16,200 RPM.
...Don't forget that it's just a .40.
All these numbers are with the dedicated #3246 tuned silencer and the original side-exhaust configuration.
There is somewhat better flow in rear exhaust configuration, since the bypasses match more perfectly. But the only full length pipe MVVS make for this engine size will neither fit, nor match the RPM.
This engine is planned to peak at a maximum of 23,000 RPM, with a suitable prop, but the #3247 pipe is for the #3070N/R GRRT/GRFT engines, that run at 25,000-over 32,000 RPM.
Maybe the longer rear header will work to lower the RPM of the pipe, to what this engine can do, but I cannot be sure.
You could use the MVVS rear header with the dedicated tuned silencer and get better performance, or you may want to supply a racing pipe from another source.
