Extra power is not the only reason for bearings, they are a lot more mechanically sound than a bushing set up. Imagine your car having bushings at the wheels instead of bearings, you would probably only get about 6 months out of them. You also have to consider the fact that you are eventually going to be happy to have more power, once you feel comfortable with the model.
