ORIGINAL: docrob

well....at least it looks much better than these horible ARF`s
Y'know, some of them aren't all that bad as the pictures make them out to be. The second picture is a Phoenix .40-.46 size Spit, and its amazing scale except for the undercart with its wheels in. But the hardwood brace is so solid that retrofitting true scale retracts is going to be a breeze. Apart from that, this is one of the most scale looking Spits I've seen in the ARF category. And it helps that its a great flier. I had an OS FL-70 engine in her, which was a lemon (idling at 4000 rpm, dying after a minute of idling, max rpm of 9800, missing in inverted flight, but that's another thread) and I now - temporarily - have an OS 50 SX with a 12x8 APC prop in her (until my YS 63 gets delivered) and she does screaming low passes with immaculate handling. Great takeoffs, great landings.

She's just 5 flights old, and I think it's about time for that ugly landing gear to go. Scale retracts, here we come.

Here are some pictures of how she looks on the ground right now.
