You can find instructors at most flying fields/clubs.
It depends on you. I personally took 3 months to solo.
As long as its someone willing to teach you, its probably free but I'd recommed going to a club.
Most any .40 size trainer is good. I personally like the Hobbicos and the tower trainer...
