300 feet would work for my club. We have one (a regular scanner than you must tuen to each frequency) that we use to check pilots transmitters when they check them into the compound on fun fly days etc... It's amazing how many people think they are on channel X when they are actually on channel Y. It's not restricted to synthesized transmitters either.
