Default RE: Best tachometer (that is available)

This may be a stupid question, but since I am new to this hobby I just have to ask. I am learning to fly and like must other things I do, I go in all the way. I have bought a Glo Bee Tack and have not used it yet, so I really don't know much about them. I have taken it out of the box and the first thing I noticed is that if you point it at a light bulb that is turned on, you will get a reading. I guess since a light bulb goes on and off so many times a second, it was reading that. My question is this since I have seen it several times now. Since I have a 9 volt battery in it, what does the sun light have to do with any of this?

Thanks in advance,
