Hi James,
power-roll coupling is not a strange behaviour, also in pattern airplanes this effects arise. Your problem is the entity of this coupling!

I've never seen something so exagerate: it could be certainly reduced by reducing propeller size and pitch (other than by radio mix).
But are you sure that a roll is involved an not a YAW?

The latter case if far more explainable and has a proper solution.
