That glue looks like the Ambroid Cement I used 47 years ago when I started flying U-Control. They still sell it (I think) so it must be pretty good. The covering looks pretty good on it. Are you sure you want to rip it off? It looks like it may be silk. If you can find that stuff now I hear it's about $15.00/yard or more. If it is silk it is very light and pretty strong. Takes Dope really well. A couple of brushed on coats of clear and it will be pretty well sealed.
