Phaeton 90
Trying to keep this discussion going........
Just bought this kit 4 days ago. I've been off work all week so I've got a lot accomplished. Both wings are built. I opted to build them according to the plans with ailerons only on the bottom. I'm looking for a gentle everyday flier. I did change the fuselage though. I changed the shape of the rudder making it rounder rather than the boring rectangle it called for in the plans. In addition, I cut the turtle-deck down so it angles from the headrest down to the the rear end of the stab. In addition, I moved the firewall back and mounted the servos and radio gear in the rear to help ballance it as I'm using a larger engine than called for. I have a SuperTigre 3000 that I'm planning on using (probably at half throttle). Due to the weight of the engine, I'm looking for some heavier landing gear to bolt on instead of the single wire gear it came with.
I'd like to put a round cowl on it as others have suggested but I'm a little confused...The thrust line is about 3/4 of the way up on the firewall. In order to center a round cowl on the prop, It'd take a 10" cowl--way too big for this plane. I could use a smaller cowl but then the prop wouldn't be centered. Any suggestions?
Unfortunately I work the next 4 days so won't be able to finish it until next week-still not bad for a kit this size.
