Maybe it's because I run my receiver antenna out behind the cockpit and up to the top of the vertical stab, or maybe it's the superior Futaba !QUOT!high'low!QUOT! receiver bands?

Or maybe you were using a freq. channel that is less susceptible to unseen interference.
