Maybe I am missing something here, but if somebody breaks the AMA and club rules and somebody gets hurt, then the AMA and club should be absolved of all financial obligations whatsoever cause somebody broke the rules. If I was being stupid with my plane and hit somebody, I would not expect the AMA to foot teh bill for my stupidity.
Well that is a reasonable way of thinking, Tim. But it does not appear to be that way in real life. AMA would get sued in almost any case, and would likely pay, even if the Safety Code has been violated. Does not matter when or where, AMA sanction or not. That is a little detail that many do not want to think about or acknowledge, it seems.
And they want to deflect the discussion to something else, like jets or hovering gianst scale or whatever.
So because a jet might fly 201 mph one day, or someone forgets to put their name and AMA number in their plane (that is in the Safety Code too!) then that somehow makes it OK to jeopardize the AMA insurance policy by lighting planes on fire and flying them around???
