I'm not new, but if it helps, I would say film would be the best to go with. If it's a first plane, and the hook sinks in there will be many more to come, hence plenty of time for the fabric. I know with iron on fabric, it stands to reason that it won't take any longer to cover. However, film covering is cheap these days(monokote-$10.99), and for newer pilots, it might offer ease of learning, where fabric might be more challenging.
Also, film(monokote) now has a few dozen or more colors in thier spectrum. Have fun.
